What are “은/는”?

The particles “은/는” in Korean serve to indicate contrast or the topic of a sentence. These particles are attached to nouns, with their form depending on whether the preceding noun ends with a final consonant (받침).

Forms and Usage

• Without final consonant (받침 없음): Use 는

• With final consonant (받침 있음): Use 은

“은/는” is used to introduce the topic or focus of a sentence.

3) Adding Emphasis

“은/는” can be used to emphasize certain elements of a sentence.
